  6.          ARC-Manager is donated to the public domain without restriction.
  7.          You may give, sell, benefit from this program as much as
  8.          possible.

  10.          No special requirements are made by ARC-Manager, save a certain
  11.          pre-requisite hardware compatibility to the IBM standard
  12.          imposed by direct screen writes.
  13.  
  14.          The only other requirement is that the environment variable
  15.          "COMSPEC" be SET prior to loading ARC-Manager, as this 
  16.          program locates and loads COMMAND.COM based on that
  17.          specification.
  18.  
  19.          ARC-Manager employs (and was inspired by) other excellent
  20.          public domain (shareware) utilities.  These include:
  21.  
  22.          Phil Katz's PKARC and PKXARC, Vern Buerg's ARCF and XONE, 
  23.          SH Smith's ARCTV and Paul Nance's ARCTOOLs.  These authors 
  24.          have all made significant contributions well beyond that of 
  25.          this modest front-end program.
  26.  
  27.          Unlike most menu/shell programs, ARC-Manager is not designed
  28.          simply to provide a menu structure for inexperienced users.
  29.  
  30.          ARC-Manager facilitates the use of the the programs by
  31.          allowing most all functions to be performed with just a few
  32.          keypresses.
  33.  
  34.          To use ARC-Manager, all the associated programs should be
  35.          placed in a common directory.  It is recommended that an
  36.          environment variable called "COMPATH" be SET using DOS's
  37.          SET command (SET COMPATH=X:\XXXXX) to point to this directory.
  38.          (This can most easily be accomplished by placing the command
  39.          in your AUTOEXEC.BAT)

  41.          Also, you may optionally SET a standard working directory path
  42.          for your ARC files using the environment variable "ARCPATH".
  43.          This procedure is not required as you can specify (or over-ride)
  44.          a directory path by including the path when specifying the name
  45.          of the ARC file you are using.

  47.          Command line syntax for ARC-Manager is simply:

  49.              AM [path\arc_file_name[.ARC]] [text_color hilite_color]  
  50.  
  51.          Where text_color and hilite_color (integers) 0-15 are optional
  52.          (ARC-Manager knows whether you are using a color or monochrome
  53.          configuration, and sets it's defaults accordingly), and
  54.          arc_file_name is also optional (although if not entered on
  55.          the command line, or when requested, it must (obviously) be 
  56.          made known to ARC-Manager prior to performing any operations).
  57.          This may be accomplished by selecting "N"ame from the start-up
  58.          menu.

  60.          Invariably, the authors of the programs ARC-Manager employs
  61.          (current versions of which, along with their documentation, are
  62.          included in this archive) will update their programs, often
  63.          including version numbers in the new filenames.  ARC-Manager
  64.          should have little trouble using such new versions as long as
  65.          the authors do not alter existing command syntax.  Simply
  66.          rename the new versions to the default names itemized on
  67.          ARC-Manager's start-up screen.
